About Us

Specialist Asset Surveys is situated in Aberdeen, Scotland, which is recognised as Europe’s energy capital, with substantial experience in the renewables field. Specialising in Drone Inspection and surveys at height.

We noticed a few years ago that something in the world was changing very quickly: technology, and history teaches us that those who do not evolve are doomed to become extinct, so we began brainstorming ways to take advantage of this technology and incorporate it into our industry.

Although the Rope Access industry has evolved over the years, with safer systems, better equipment, and mechanical ascending devices to name a few, the need for working at heights using rope access will never be completely eliminated.

Technology, like almost every other industry, has had a huge impact on society because it made something that would seem impossible or even unimaginable decades ago possible! We needed to think in that way; we needed to find something in our industry that was impossible to do in any other way and see if technology could make it possible…

Because of the standards and training involved, the rope access sector is one of the safest if managed properly, so what can you do to improve that? We discussed it more and conducted additional research, and the lightbulb moment occurred… Is it possible to work at heights without really working at heights?

Yes it absolutely is, and we did, we introduced DRONES! to our operations to carry out our initial inspections!

Here’s how the use of Drones have changed our business

First and foremost, safety! Drones significantly lowered workplace dangers and anxiety by eliminating the need to continually work at heights (which is something to not underestimate).

Faster inspections: When we had to inspect a wind turbine or a large building, it could take us days or even a week. Now we’re able to complete the delivery in a matter if hours and ensure a faster delivery for our clients in turn reducing the cost to clients significantly

Quality of inspections: We now have "the ability to see things differently" by using the newest drone technology such as high quality aerial photography, videography, and thermal imaging. We can look further, higher, and deeper and can apply this to various industries.

The list could go on and on, but these three were the most significant improvements made possible by drones. As previously stated, we "just" needed to consider what was previously unattainable for us and make it possible with today's technology. In fact, our tagline at Specialist Asset Surveys is "the ability to see things differently," and it couldn't be a more accurate statement.

Our Mission

To ensure that the right people have the right data to make the right decisions in the safest way possible

Experience

Our team at Specialist Asset Surveys has had the opportunity to work in a variety of industries, including onshore and offshore windfarms on large scale maintenance and repair projects, as well as large scale roofing installations and repairs; we bring this knowledge to our drone projects because we understand the challenges that safety and limited access present.

What we can do for you

WHAT DO OUR DRONE SERVICES OFFER YOU?

COMMERICAL ROOF SURVEYS

Our commercial building and roof condition surveys safeguard the safety and security of your commercial building by revealing potential areas of improvements and providing you with the complete picture in its entirety.

RESIDENTIAL ROOF SURVEYS

A roof assessment of your residential building is an excellent approach to find preventative actions by identifying potential issues early and avoiding longer-term costly repairs, as well as to assure the building’s safety. We are also able to conduct surveys on listed buildings without using intrusive access methods.

THE SOFTWARE

The information is only as good as the data collected, drones are data collection tools, so it is up to us at Specialist Asset Surveys to ensure the data provides the right information to make the right decisions, so this is why we use the latest in technology and the best software possible to do so.

Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is the future, but in order to ensure the longevity of these assets, they must be inspected. By utilising high resolution photography, thermal imagery, and automation, we can cover large scale projects in less time and maximise the data available to provide longer-term maintenance strategies.

SOLAR PANELS

The myth of self-cleaning solar panels. Water is said to not stick to the panels however they do still require cleaning due to bird droppings or algae build up, it is also advisable to carry our regular inspections to ensure they are operating at optimum efficiency and effectiveness, and we have found that using thermal imagery with our drones is the most efficient way to do this.

Snagging Surveys

Time constraints, poor workmanship, inadequate equipment can all lead to snagging issues with new build properties, we at Specialist Asset Surveys can provide real time data for the asset owner covering the entire roofing system, guttering and fascia trims giving you the peace of mind

Why Use Drones?

Why choose drones over physical inspections as surely it is better to see it through someone elses eyes than that of a drone? We get asked this all the time With advancements in drone technology and the use of drones as a replacement for aerial inspections over traditional physical inspections, which frequently use either expensive scaffolding, MEWPS (mobile elevated work platforms), or even rope access for even greater heights these often limit the area of inspection due to their limitations of access. Additional benefits would be:

Overall, our drone inspection service offers a faster, cheaper, and safer alternative for all your roof survey needs.

Safety is key in what we do, prior to take off we carry out risk assessments, flight planning, local airspace checks and liaise with local ATC (Air Traffic Control) where necessary

We understand the nature of the business and the challenges faced with the risks involed of working at heights and the consequences of getting it wrong through our extensive experience of working across and number of different industries.

Our team is made of fully qualified drone operators regulated by the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) having completed our GVC and A2CofC qualifications and we are authorised to operate commercially with our PDRA01 operational authorisation.

Testimonials

Our company North East Pest Management Ltd specialise in design and installation of systems that stop pest birds from roosting and nesting on both commercial and residential properties throughout Scotland.

Special Asset Surveys have supported us in the initial survey on many of these projects by providing in depth pictures, HD video, and essential information that allows us to safely plan the works without having to carry out the initial surveys at height by using MEWPS or other methods that are not as safe or cost effective as Specialist Asset Surveys.
